Mae Cymwysterau Cymru wedi penderfynu bwrw ymlaen â datblygu cyfres o gymwysterau Sgiliau Gwaith a Sgiliau Bywyd, o lefel mynediad i lefel 2. Gydag ystod gyffrous o unedau fel Cymorth Cyntaf Sylfaenol, Llythrennedd Ariannol, Cynllunio a Pharatoi Bwyd, Technegau Cyfweld a Hyder, a Menter, byddan nhw’n cynnig unedau hyblyg byr y mae modd eu cyfuno i ennill dyfarniad, tystysgrif neu ddiploma.
Bydd y cymhwyster sy’n seiliedig ar brosiect, sy’n asesu’r sgiliau cyfannol sydd wedi’u rhestru yn y Cwricwlwm, hefyd yn cael ei ddatblygu o dan yr enw newydd ‘Prosiect Personol’. Bydd hyn ar gael o lefel mynediad i lefel 2.
Dilynwch y diweddariadau isod neu gofynnwch gwestiwn i ni am y cymwysterau sgiliau newydd. Rydyn ni’n monitro’r wefan hon yn rheolaidd ac yn anelu at ymateb o fewn tua 3 diwrnod gwaith.
Qualifications Wales has decided to go ahead with the development of a suite of Skills for Work and Skills for Life qualifications, from entry level to level 2. With an exciting range of units such as Basic First Aid, Financial Literacy, Food Planning and Preparation, Interview and Confidence Techniques, and Enterprise Venture, they will offer flexible bite-sized units that can be combined to achieve an award, certificate or diploma.
The project-based qualification, which assesses the integral skills listed in the Curriculum, will also be taken forward under the new name of ‘Personal Project’. This will be available from entry level to level 2.

Hello. Having read the consultation report and watched the webinar. I have several questions:
1. The report states that there were 509 responses to the consultation questionnaire but the graphs give reference they are based on between 160 and 180 responses for each question. Could you explain why there is this variance?
2.The new Skills Suite seems to be essentially the current SSC but with some additional options that schools MAY choose to take on board. Could these options have not been introduced as alternatives to the current choice of 2 out of 3 projects to sit along side the Individual Project.
3. Could you explain the rationale of taking away the GCSE qualification away from Skills? This has been a massive incentive in my school and taking that status away will be demotivating. I would also say this devalues the qualification as employers will not regard it as a serious qualification.
4.Will the new Skills Suite be part of the core curriculum like SSC, therefore, a key performance indicator. If not then many schools could choose to drop it and allocate the time to other subjects where the skills can be developed discreetly.

Thank you for your question/s.
Q - 1. The consultation presented opportunities for respondents to give overall views on the proposals or answer specific questions. Not all respondents choose to answer every question. This may be because respondents only answered questions relevant to their sector of work. In order for the data to be displayed in a clear and accessible way, non-respondents were excluded.
Q - 2. Our decisions took into consideration the views of a wide range of stakeholders during our extensive engagement. The Skills Suite builds on the strengths of the current Skills Challenge Certificate qualification, ensuring greater flexibility and inclusivity.
Q - 3. The current Skills Challenge Certificate is not, and has never been, a GCSE qualification.
Q - 4. Performance measures are not within the remit of Qualifications Wales - Welsh Government decide performance measures. It is important to note that we have worked closely with Welsh Government as thinking has evolved to ensure that our vision for qualifications supports policy intentions. The Curriculum for Wales has clear mandatory legislation. The Skills Suite supports centres in meeting the statutory requirements and in realising the four purposes.
