GCSE Dance
Studying dance provides learners with an insight into performance, choreography and critical appreciation, enabling them to explore a physical and conceptual understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.
GCSE Dance provides a wealth of opportunities to develop creativity, communication skills and curiosity through experiential learning, building an understanding of different forms, genres, styles and techniques.
This brand new qualification will inspire learners to notice, express and share their experiences with confidence.
What will learners be assessed on?
Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and performing skills in relation to a broad range of Dance.
Performing dance, reflecting choreographic intention through physical, technical and expressive skills.
Exploring, creating and developing ideas, including movement, setting, choreographic devices and structure to realise choreographic intention with technical control and sophistication.
Reflect on and evaluate their own work and the work of others, making analytical, interpretative and evaluative judgements.
How will learners be assessed?
Exam (30%) targeting underpinning essential knowledge and understanding.
This exam will include digital, on screen assessment.
Practical performance (30%). This assessment will be set by the awarding body and marked by the awarding body.
Choreography (40%). This assessment will be set by the awarding body, marked by teachers and moderated by the awarding body.
