GCSE Film and Digital Media

Studying film and digital media allows learners to explore how film and digital media can shape understanding of the contemporary world and to become critically informed digital citizens.

GCSE Film and Digital Media provides a wealth of opportunities to develop creativity, communication skills and curiosity through experiential learning.

This brand new qualification will inspire learners to become original and imaginative thinkers who can notice, reflect upon and share their experiences with confidence.

What will learners be assessed on?

  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of a broad range of film and digital media products.

  • Applying skills in the production of film or digital media products to realise creative intentions.

  • Exploring, creating and developing creative ideas and techniques to produce film or digital media products with increasing technical control.

  • Reflecting on and evaluating their own work and the work of others.

How will learners be assessed?

  • Exam (30%) targeting underpinning essential knowledge and understanding.

  • This exam will include digital, on screen assessment.

  • Non-exam assessment (70%) which must include a portfolio and an assignment. Both will be marked by teachers and moderated by the awarding body. The assignment will be set by the awarding body and must include an element of digital assessment.
