The qualification encourages experimentation with a variety of techniques and tools and covers a broad range of options including three-dimensional design, photography and textiles.
GCSE Art & Designprovides a wealth of opportunities to develop creativity, communication skills and curiosity through experiential learning. It also enables learners to explore and appreciate the creative art, design and craft work of others.
This qualification will inspire learners to become original and imaginative artists who can notice, reflect upon and share their experiences with creativity and confidence.
What will learners be assessed on?
Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of a broad range of work produced by artists, craftspeople and designers to increase awareness of the wide variety of art, craft and design processes and outcomes.
Applying skills in the production of art, craft and design work to develop innovative ideas and realise creative intentions with control.
Reflecting on and evaluating their own work and the work of others.
Exploring, creating and developing creative ideas and techniques to produce and present work.
How will learners be assessed?
A portfolioworth 60% of the qualification. This will be set by teachers, marked by teachers and moderated by the awarding body.
An assignmentworth 40% of the qualification, set by the awarding body, marked by the teacher and moderated by the awarding body.
